Acer and Walmart have announced the return of Gateway to the PC game, with a brand-new lineup of affordable laptops and tablets available only at Walmart. On paper, this new foray is set up to be a game changer, and potentially a major threat to other budget conscious options such as Google’s Chromebook series. Let’s take a closer look.
Gateway has used its experience in producing budget-friendly tech to introduce several great options for the everyday user. Here are a few of the new products available:
At $69 and $89, Gateway has introduced an 8" and 10.1” tablet, running the Android 10 Go operating system complete with front and back cameras, and 32GB of storage to take apps and media with you wherever you go.
At $179, the 11.6" Ultra Slim Notebook comes equipped with 4GB RAM, 64 GB storage, Cortana, a webcam and Windows 10 S.
At $199, for light users or students, there is an option similar to what you’d see in a Chromebook in this price range, but with the intuitive Windows 10 Home over Google’s more restrictive operating system. It’s worth mentioning as well, that this option could be perfect for those of us with young children adapting to online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.
At $479, there is a 14.1” laptop with all the trappings of a modern laptop: Fingerprint scanner, a core i5 processor, and 16GB of RAM all for less than $500.
At $499, we have a laptop with all the same insides as the 14.1" listed above plus a larger screen (15.6").
For serious gamers and creators, the Gateway Creator Series 15.6" notebook gets you an Intel i5 processor, 8GB Dual Channel RAM, 256GB SSD, Xbox Game Pass for PC, HD Webcam, Cortana, and Windows 10 Home for $999.
All of the options in Gateway’s new line, save for one of the higher-end creator series laptops, feature several different color options for personalization. Additionally, the company has delineated from some of the mainstays we highlighted above with a few other notebook options that offer things like 2-in-1 tablet/laptop functionality while maintaining a similarly affordable price tag. Budget-friendly when budgets are tight
With so many parents and students working and learning from home during the pandemic, this seems like the perfect time to reintroduce affordable Gateway products. Gateway PCs were known for being budget-friendly even when other PCs were not, and affordable PCs are now more in demand than ever. How do you think these products compare to other laptops and tablets that are available? Do you think they provide the same performance for the price? Have you seen other products that offer more for the same price or is Gateway right on the money? We'd love to hear what you think!
