Extra Space = Extra Money

Do you have extra room in your garage or basement, or maybe an extra parking spot for an RV, car or motorcycle? Now you can turn that space into cash thanks to Neighbor, a peer-to-peer self-storage company that matches people with extra space to people with extra stuff.

Self-storage units are big business and can be costly. The prices on many spaces listed on Neighbor average 50% less than typical self-storage units. Neighbor provides guidelines to help hosts determine their price, but ultimately the host decides what to charge. Someone is more apt to store their belongings in a home if it's a cheaper, convenient and possibly safer option.

What can be stored?

Restricted items include firearms, drugs, hazardous or flammable materials, and explosives to name a few. Homeowners are allowed to inspect everything they store as well as reject anything they don't want to store. They are also protected by Neighbor's Host Guarantee, up to $2 million against damage to their home or if a renter is injured while moving their belongings in or out of the property. Hosts set the access level and time(s) when renters can access the space. Renters are protected as well with Neighbor's Renter Guarantee, up to $25,000 towards damage or theft (certain items may not be covered). Renters must disclose all items that are being stored.

Is it safe?

So how do you know if you can trust the person storing things in your home or that they can trust you? Neighbor provides Scam Prevention with photo ID verification, phone verification, email verification and background checks. For hosts, they also promise secure, automatic payments and guarantee payments as long as the space is occupied, even if the renter is late or stops paying. Neighbor handles all payments.

Sharing is Caring

You can share a ride, share your home, share your car, share your extra storage space, and you can even sign up to be a puppy co-parent or do other people's laundry in your home. What's next?
